Dr. Michael Stochmal

Dr. Stochmal is an Adjunct Faculty member of the University of Western States, a preceptor to a Student Chiropractic Intern as they finish their required clinical hours for licensure.  He is conversant in French.  He was chiropractor for team Michelle Stilwell, Olympic gold medal wheelchair athlete.  Dr. Stochmal has attended the care of geriatric patients at Malaspina Gardens (a residential care facility) in Nanaimo.  He graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, ON in 1993.  During his schooling he was part of the nursing team on the adolescent ward of Hugh MacMillan Rehabilitation Centre (a paediatric orthopaedic hospital).

 

Dr. Seth Harper-Heir

Dr. Harper-Heir graduated from the University of Western States in Portland, OR with a Doctor of Chiropractic and Bachelor of Science in Human Biology. He is certified in Active Release Technique (ART), and has experience with personal training and strength conditioning.

Having grown up in the mountains surrounding Hinton, Alberta, Seth developed a passion for the outdoors. This passion resulted in many trips to the chiropractor, and an appreciation for this specialized care.

Dr. Harper-Heir provides patients with a comprehensive treatment approach, with the goal to empower patients to feel and be their best. He enjoys working with patients of all ages from young children, to pregnant women, to athletes, and geriatrics. Therapies provided include; manual adjusting, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), electrotherapies, ART, Tailored Rehabilitation Programs, and use of a Chiropractic adjusting tool (CAT)

In portland, Dr. Harper-Heir had the opportunity to work at a variety of clinics and community events where he treated a wide range of patients.

Seth currently enjoys many activities including; volleyball, climbing, mountain biking, skiing, and surfing. Most of all he loves hiking with his family, and has been known to chase his son up and down Parksville beach on sunny days.

 

Dr. Karin Mattern

Dr. Mattern came to Canada in 1968 from a small town in western New York State, with a degree in Fine Art from the University of Buffalo.

After working several years in the UBC Library and then as a "lady logger" in Sayward and Kelsey Bay, she went back to school in Toronto to become a Chiropractor in 1977.

Since graduating in 1981, Dr. Mattern has been in full time practice in Nanaimo.

She loves to sing and is a member of Camerata Singers, as well as a member of Nanaimo Daybreak Rotary and the Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Mattern’s focus is evidence-based chiropractic for the whole family, from pediatrics to geriatrics. You are never too young or too old to benefit from Chiropractic.

Sheila McGrath, RMT

As  one of the most experienced  Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) in Nanaimo BC , I have over twenty-five years of professional experience in massage therapy.

I offer a positive, supportive, therapeutic and integrated approach to:

  • Preventative care and rehabilitation

  • Pregnancy support:  pre and post natal care

Registered massage therapists (RMTs) in British Columbia are trained in the assessment and diagnosis of soft tissues and joints, and the treatment and prevention of injury, pain, and physical disorders.

Caitlyn Nyman, RMT

After graduating from York University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (the study of human movement), Caitlyn pursued an education in Massage Therapy from Sutherland-Chan teaching school in Toronto Ontario.

While completing her diploma, Caitlyn was able to work with patients in specialized clinics including sports massage, central nervous system conditions, high-risk pregnancy as well as several other presentations.

Her well-rounded approach to rehabilitation involves not only treatment on the table, but also patient education, postural awareness techniques and home-care as well.

Caitlyn’s areas of practice include:

  • swedish massage
  • trigger point release
  • myofascial release
  • pregnancy massage (pre & post natal focus)
  • sports massage (injury prevention & rehabilitation care)

Caitlyn relocated to Nanaimo from Mississauga Ontario in 2015, and is enjoying all the Island has to offer. She maintains an active lifestyle and actively pursues running, volleyball, kayaking, hiking and long walks with her dog.
